About The Theater
Until 2005, the "Montana
Wonder Theater" was two store buildings in downtown Libby, Montana.
One building was being used by an insurance company, the other was the
old Chapman Variety Store. The Chapman store is historic for Libby
in the sense that it was open for business nearly sixty years and many
local people have memories of shopping there in the past.
Chapman's had closed down a few years earlier so the building was
sitting empty.
Duane and Mary Laflin had been
living in Northwest Montana since 1998, but traveling nearly full time
with their performances. They were so weary of time on the road
and in airplanes, so started looking for a place to do their shows near
home. They became aware that these two store buildings, side by
side in the heart of Libby, were for sale.
After much prayer and
consideration, they decided to take the risk. The two buildings
were purchased, a tremendous amount of clean up and remodeling was
accomplished, and a theater, museum, and gift whop were created.
The theater seats 100 people.
It is air-conditioned with a fully equipped stage, special lighting
arrangements, and a professional sound system.
The gift shop has a snack bar
area, plenty of interesting things to look at, and several tables that
provide places for relaxed conversation while making snack "disappear."
The museum is a work in
progress. At this time there are many photos and posters, along
with several collections and displays on exhibit. There are plans
to do more with this in the future.
The second season will begin
June 20, 2008.
